What are pensions dashboards?
If you’ve had more than one job during your career, chances are you’ve probably had more than one pension. Over time, it can be easy to lose track of how many pensions you’ve had and which providers they’re with.
Currently, there’s no way to see all of your pensions in one place, making it harder to plan for your financial future. But that’s about to change...
Pensions dashboards is a new UK government initiative designed to help you find and keep track of all of your pensions, including your State Pension, all in one place.
How will pensions dashboards help you?
Pensions dashboards are digital services – apps, websites, or other digital tools – that will be able to reconnect you with any pensions you’ve lost track of or forgotten about. You’ll have one overarching view of all the pensions you’ve saved into throughout your life. That way, you’ll be able to plan more effectively for your financial future.
How will pensions dashboards work?
The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) – a public body backed by the UK Government – has established the Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) to design and implement the digital infrastructure that will make pensions dashboards work.
It’s a massive undertaking. Up to 52 million adults in the UK and 43,000 pension providers and schemes will connect to a single digital ecosystem managed by MaPS. MoneyHelper, the free service provided by MaPS, will provide the first pensions dashboard to the public.
Both public sector and commercial providers will be free to develop their own pensions dashboards, but all will be plugged into the same digital ecosystem.
When will pensions dashboards be available?
The government hasn’t confirmed an exact launch date yet but what we do know is that all pension schemes and providers must connect to the pensions dashboards ecosystem by 31 October 2026. This is when the digital infrastructure will be fully in place.
